The Old City of Acre(Akko), Israel

in #blog7 years ago (edited)

There is something magical about old cities. Like taking a step back in time, history unwraps itself the deeper you step between its walls. And all you should do is look at all the beauty around you, and let it be.

The world is changing. We like to destroy to build again, because we think we can do better. We bring forests down, break apart old villages, swipe memories aside and take what is left. Shiny tall buildings take their place instead, and as we blink a dozen more joins. We pick up our artificial plants and think they might smell.

There is something irreplaceable about old things. Old cities are important for the human culture; places that we can share and interact in, places that have always brought people together.

One of those special cities is named Acre/Akko, and is located in the north of Israel.

I like to wander through its market, where merchants scream about having the cheapest products.

I like the strong smells; the sweet, the spicy, but never the fish's.

I like the food. Hummus is a big thing here, Hummus is good, but Hummus in Akko is love.

I like the sound of the waves. I like to lay on the rocks and close my eyes, and feel everything.

Best of all I like the walls. They tell a story. They are the only witnesses of endless tales, and the touch of them makes you believe. You wander and imagine.

Old Acre is one of THE best day-trips in Israel. It's got everything - views, GRRREAT food (Galilean/Lebanese cuisine at its best), history, even a "jousting" attraction. Excellent post.

Thank you! 😊😊
