Crazy Culinary China
Chines people Love Food!!
I'm A Kiwi Canadian living in China. 10 years of traveling in South East Asia and I've seen some strange things that I would like to share with you guys.
If you ever have the chance to travel to China I highly recommend it as it is a really amazing country.
So let's get into the dining habits and dishes.
I am always shocked at the sheer amount of food these petite beautiful women can eat and how they eat it.
So I'm going to start with the dinner table etiquette that you must adhere to in China.
Never put your chopstick upright( vertically) in your bowl. This is can represent death just like the way they burn incense to remember their ancestors, and is very frowned upon. However you can spit out the chicken bones on the table, men may remove their shirts and a meal can last hours. I have been to diners that lasted 4 hours and this isn't abnormal. I don't want you to misunderstand me, I love China and living here. There are foods here that I cannot live without anymore, customs that I wish the rest of the world could see and a family tightness that is rare these days.
If you don't stand your chopsticks up, well everything else is pretty much acceptable.
Now to the food. Chinese people believe in a proverb that is " if it grows in the ground, walks, flys or swims it is food." and they really do eat everything.
CHECK THESE OUT
BBQ Chickens feet.
A lot of people love them.
I am not among them.
Pig Stomach( Pig tripe) is also popular, as is most internal and external organs. WHAT EXTERNAL ORGANS YOU MIGHT ASK YOURSELF?
That's right. Sheeps penis.
oh and chicken testicals.
The list goes on and we have only covered some unusual meats.
Can you have a guess what the next dish contains???
Hint ------- it swims
If you guessed jellyfish you're right.
I never ever ever thought jellyfish was a food. I still don't!!
Chinese people believe food must be fresh. They buy live fish, chickens and ducks and kill them in their homes. They do not cut the meat off of the bone as we do in the west and nor do restaurants. They literally take a cleaver and hack the chicken or fish or duck until they are all in mouth side pieces. This is where the spitting of bones onto the table has become acceptable.
Keeping all that in mind, about the lengths they go to for fresh food, then how do you explain this?
A 400 year old egg.
Nice presentation, but it's still a 400 year old egg. Why would anyone intentionally keep and egg that long?
I'm Loving this platform.
Thanks
Chinese? or Chinse?
