- Big Bang Theory - Onto their 11th season now, Big Bang Theory is easily one of the most popular sitcoms in the world. Contrary to what I thought when I was younger, this TV show follows the life of a group of highly intelligent scientists and their not-so science-y girl neighbor. If you like comedy, sarcasm, and getting your geek on, this one might be for you.
- King of Queens – Not as recent, but still a very well written show. I discovered it only a few years ago whilst flipping through channels and immediately began watching the re-runs. This show follows a youngish middle-aged couple and their obstacles through marriage, workplace, and friends. Very entertaining and funny!
- Modern Family- Still going, Modern Family is exactly that, a show that follows the lives of a pretty modern family. Also, it’s really great for anybody that doesn’t like a laugh track. It’s filled with common familial hurdles, very relatable to real life. It’s also packed with comedic scenes and situations.
- Friends – A classic TV show of the 90’s, the show may not be as modern and diverse as some others, but it still carries a good standing. If you like comedy and pretty girls, then this one is for you.
- Seinfeld – An oldie, but a goodie. Creator Larry David, is not a force to be reckoned with. His hard work speaks for itself, but just in case anyone needs validation, Seinfeld was not only one of the most popular shows in the 90’s, but still remains one of the most re-run show in TV history. Similar to Friends, it revolves around a group of friends and the throws of life, but in my opinion, it’s much more witty and raw. Classic.
- Curb your Enthusiasm – A show made shortly after the end of Seinfeld, this show was created, written, and executed by Larry David. If you like sarcasm, and if you struggle in your daily life with minuscule things, definitely watch Larry David through the pitfalls of his life. It’s a slightly darker comedy, but very relatable. It’s also, less of an “acting/performance centered” show, rather more “realistic.”
- Full House – I had to put this on my list because I grew up with this TV show. It may not be as fun to watch as an adult, but as a kid I lived for this show. So, it’s a great show to watch for anyone with kids as this show is loaded with teachable moments and offers plenty of valuable life lessons.
- Third Rock from the Sun – If you’re looking for a hidden gem, look no further. This TV show is so incredibly unique, in that it strays away from your typical T.V. casts. Also, it’s not as high budget as other T.V. shows, but it still earned my respect. It follows a “family” of aliens who come to Earth with a mission to understand humans (when they come to Earth, they take the form of humans, so don’t be thinking it’s a show with purple blobs). Also, if you’ve watched Dexter, the guy who plays the trinity killer in season 4 delivers a similarly outstanding performance as the main character in this TV show.
- Dexter – Might as well mention this one since I already kind of did. If you like crime TV shows, but you also enjoy a good and rich storyline, this one is for you. Dexter follows the life of a guy who is a forensics analyst by day and a serial killer by night; but with one catch, he only kills deserving people. The first season is by far the best in my opinion, but it sure does encompass a lot of terrific actors throughout the series.
- Breaking Bad – Okay. I don’t even no how to describe this show to do it justice. This show left me speechless. Incredibly well done with amazing actors and an even better storyline that will leave you mesmerized. This show follows the story of a high school science teacher who finds “alternate” means of making money in order to support his family. Oh yeah, and he’s terminally ill which makes this TV show that much more meaningful.
- Better Call Saul – A spin-off of Breaking Bad, this prequel follows the life of one of the supporting characters from Breaking Bad. Although produced after Breaking Bad, this TV show does an incredible job at displaying character transformation and how a series of grueling life events can change someone for better or worse. For anyone who has watched Breaking Bad and liked it, definitely give this one a shot. I’ll give you a little hint…it’s a show about Saul 😉
- Flash – Slightly cheesy in the beginning, the acting does improve as the seasons progress. If you like superhero stuff and DC comics, check this show out if you haven’t already. In case the name wasn’t obvious, it’s a TV show about Flash (the fastest man alive), but one of the reasons why this show drew me in was because the concept of time-travel explored in the show is just so damn cool.
- Arrow – Less superhero-y than the Flash and in some ways more realistic, Arrow follows the journey of a rich, careless party-boy and his transformation into a secret humble public servant. This show if loaded with fights, gunfire, and drama. And it’s also based off of DC comics, so that’s even better.
- Walking Dead – Who doesn’t like a show about the zombie apocalypse? Well, there’s tons out there, but this one is by far the best. This show is made in a way that literally makes you feel as if you’re in a zombie apocalypse. It’s so realistic and honestly extremely well thought out and done. The circumstances encountered and the tough decisions the characters make in the TV show will make you think long and hard about what you would do if we ever saw a zombie apocalypse in our lifetime.
- Homeland – With the major hype in crime series now days, I had to include this one, but it’s not your typical crime drama because it’s much more meaningful and serious than most. This show delves into terrorism and definitely does not stray away from the darkness of it all. Also filled with phenomenal actors.
- White Rabbit Project – Only one season, but if you want to binge on a cool, informative TV show like Myth busters, check this one out. I actually learned a lot from this show, and I’m sad that it didn’t get renewed, but at least I got to enjoy one season of it.
- Bill Nye Saves the World – Okay, I would make a ton of changes to this new Bill Nye TV show, but I feel I have to include it because never the less I am psyched that Bill Nye is back. I grew up watching his original Bill Nye the Science Guy show and probably learned more form his show than I did in any science class. Personally, I could do without the live audience that takes away from the show and the ridiculous and pointless skits so, definitely not as good as the original (with the exception of the resolution improvements and cool technology), but still an informative TV show.
