In Aceh itself, Gayo coffee is mostly grown in the highlands. There are three areas that became the center of Gayo coffee, namely Central Aceh District, Bener Meriah and Gayo Lues.
The three regions have 60 varieties and cultivated variety of Gayo coffee. However, from many varieties, two of them are taken to be developed, namely varieties Gayo 1 and Gayo 2. Development of these two varieties is a suggestion from the Ministry of Agriculture because both are considered to have good quality.
Gayo itself is the name of the original tribe who inhabit this region. The majority of Gayo people work as coffee farmers. Arabica varieties dominate the coffee species developed by Gayo Coffee farmers. Arabica Coffee Production produced from Gayo Land is the largest in Asia
Gayo coffee is one of the typical coffee from Aceh Nusantara quite popular by various circles in the world. Gayo coffee has a very distinctive aroma and flavor. Most of the coffee is there, the bitterness is still left on our tongue, but not so in Gayo coffee. The bitterness is hardly felt in this coffee. The genuine taste of Gayo coffee is found in the aroma of fragrant coffee and savory taste is hardly bitter. There is even a opinion that the taste of Gayo coffee exceeds the taste of Blue Mountain coffee originating from Jamaica. Gayo Aceh Gayo Coffee is produced from a smallholder plantation in Gayo highlands, Central Aceh. In the area coffee is grown in an organic way without chemicals so this coffee is also known as green coffee (environmentally friendly). Gayo coffee is touted as the best organic coffee in the world.
According to Ikra, the superiority of Gayo coffee taste is inconsistency, representing the taste of coffee around the world caused by soil contour, altitude, and coffee type.
The coffee grown in Gayo Land is arabica coffee, a coffee variety that is very massive in its development in Indonesia. In the past, the poet Fikar said, our society is deceived by Dutch colonists who say that arabica coffee is only for the nobility, while robusta coffee for the people. So since then most people only know Robusta coffee, while arabica coffee is exported abroad to be enjoyed by the "nobility" of Europe.
Now that the public has become well acquainted with the enjoyment of Arabica coffee, the development of this coffee is also very rapid, which is characterized by the decrease in export volume and the increasing demand of domestic coffee over time.
Arabica coffee flavor is light because it is said caffeine is much smaller than robusta, the cause of those who often have problems with stomach acid after drinking coffee, choose arabica coffee as a casual friend in the morning or evening.
