Jodie Gillett, 19, had finished her shift as a waitress at a café in Baulkham Hills on Friday afternoon when she went for a driving lesson with her father Garry in Glenorie, the Daily Telegraph reports.

She had almost clocked up enough hours to obtain her provisional licence.

About 4.45pm, Jodie was killed when her Suzuki Swift collided with a Ford Falcon at the intersection of Old Northern Road and Meriden Avenue.

Police confirmed the 19-year-old died at the scene.

Her father was airlifted to Royal North Shore Hospital where he remains today in a critical condition.

Jodie, who was reportedly studying to be a primary school teacher, has been remembered as elegant, family-oriented and hard-working.

A family friend, who works with her mother at a preschool in Castle Hill, told the Daily Telegraph she was a “natural teacher”.

“I taught her since she was a baby and she taught my daughter ballet,” Jane Harvey told the newspaper.

“She’s the most beautiful girl you could ever come across.

“She was a natural teacher; a beautiful girl in every way. She was an angel.”

Authorities are investigating the cause of the crash, but believe the driver may have been attempting a turn just before the accident.

Witness David King earlier told 9NEWS he stayed with Jodie as paramedics arrived, trying to keep her alive.

“I just tried to talk to her, to keep her going that way,” Mr King said.

“You couldn’t open the door, you couldn’t do anything.

“That was the first time I have ever seen anything like that and I don’t want to see it again.”

Chief Inspector Frank Gilroy said her mother was “absolutely devastated”.

The 38-year-old driver of the Falcon was not seriously injured but was taken to Westmead Hospital to undergo mandatory drug and alcohol testing.
