We all need electricity for different reasons. It could be for charging our devices, staying updated to our favourite television programs, or to navigate our home in the dark. Aside from the impressive usefulness of electricity in the home, it can still perform the same wonders when used in the outside world. All over the world today, people are stuck with the traditional street lights that only lights up the paths, and does little or nothing to bolster security. It is true that the street lights (when working) can reveal the facial features and even the body structures of other people using the same road with you. Yet, do they have any additional security features? The answer is an emphatic NO!

WE NEED MORE THAN STREET LIGHTS

There’s a need for more than street lights. It is time to move out of the conventional street lights that only provide ambience in the day and night to one that can combine those with security. We’re talking about the solar energy panels that provide electricity in our streets, as well as security in our roads.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

You might be wondering about how a “mere street light” can provide security. Your thoughts are not out of place though because we are already used to having only electricity from the traditional street lights and nothing more.

The highpoints of the CITIOS quest to become one of the best smart city projects on the blockchain technology is the integration of the LoRa private network, the use of autonomous IoT, and the use of edge computing and AI chip embedded to have better security on our streets.

The CitiOS All-in-One Street Lights

I am pleased to introduce to you, the first street light that does only provide light, but can also help both the citizens and the government in many ways. The first point to note is that the street lights in question do not rely on the traditional electricity. Worthy of note is that Africa is the primary location or target area of the CitiOS project. As we already know, electric power supply in the region is epileptic. So, making use of the same to power the CitiOS would bring down the latter to the same fate it is trying to change.

Instead, the formulation of universal street lights is designed in a way that alternative sources of electricity, such as solar panels, would be used to power the lights. In addition to that, there is the integration of the edge AI Camera that aids in surveillance around the areas the street lights are mounted. Worthy of mention is that the street lights with the infusion of the AI camera helps to provide real-time data about specific events, such as suspicious movements, unregulated driving, and fire outbreaks.

On the other hand, the LoRa private network, which doubles as one of the most robust feature on CitiOS is there to provide lower power consumption on the Artificial Internet of Things (AIoT)-powered street lights. The role of the LoRa private network is to ensure that the data gathered via the street lights would be transmitted to the CitiOS blockchain network without the interference of any party. Moreover, the implementation of LoRa in CitiOS street lights in Africa and other parts of the world would aid in the improvements of the street lights in the cities, and improve other infrastructures around the region.

CONCLUSION

There is no end to what we can achieve by using the CitiOS blockchain platform. From the provision of standard street lights to the additional security features, African societies can now be better equipped to handle security challenges, while having uninterrupted access to insights about the events that happen around them.
