Apple allows you to use cryptocurrencies on your devices😱
Apple is in the process of introducing the use of cryptocurrencies in its devices. The company has developed the CryptoKit support, a new frame of reference that will allow its users to use Blockchain technology and process cryptocurrencies, as well as other cryptographic operations.
This novelty, which has been presented at the Apple developer conference, will allow common cryptographic operations. Specifically, CryptoKit will allow to calculate, evaluate and compare keys, store keys in the Secure Enclave of the device -the security layer of macOS and iOS in which users' passwords are stored safely- and generate encryption and authentication keys.
All of them are common operations within the Blockchain technology, the architecture that serves as a basis for cryptocurrencies and that is nourished by encrypted information - hidden by a key - that travels between different nodes or participants. The goal of Apple, which in 2018 banned mining bitcoins from their devices, is now to create a support that facilitates and makes more secure the exchange of information of the chain of blocks.
What utilities does the new support have? Among the enabled features of Cryptokit is to use public cryptographic keys to evaluate digital signatures, and to perform key exchanges, a series of necessary processes in the block chain of Blockchain.
The support also includes the functions of generating symmetric keys, those systems that use the same key to encrypt and decrypt the text content, and use them in operations such as authentication and encryption messages.
Cryptokit is already on the way. This frame of reference is compatible with the operating systems recently introduced by Apple: iOS 13, for mobile devices; macOS 10.15, for computers; the UIKit development framework for Mac 13.0. All are, for now, in beta.
Apple is determined that its users trust its new support and has made a call for developers to use it against other lower-level interfaces, as Cryptokit will automate security tasks, such as the overwriting of confidential data during operations. Device memory management routine.
It seems that Apple is determined to integrate cryptography among its users. Proof of this is that the company has already added the bitcoin symbol to the font used in their devices, the San Francisco. Although this is only a first step, the company has assured that it is among its plans a deeper immersion in this new technology.
