Introducing the Hydro Community Development Program

As we continue to build the Hydro community and our ecosystem, we are excited to officially launch the Hydro Community Development Program (HCDP)! On behalf of the whole Hydro team, we would like to thank all of our community members for the tremendous support they have given us so far, and we encourage everyone to become even more involved.The Hydro Community Development Program is designed to go above and beyond typical bounty initiatives, offering a variety of ways for community members to contribute to the ongoing growth and vibrance of the Hydro technology ecosystem. Active members of the Hydro community who receive HYDRO tokens under HCDP can benefit from the additional utility that HYDRO tokens provide within the ecosystem.The end goal of the HCDP is to foster the growth, health, vibrancy, and complete decentralization of the Hydro ecosystem. We hope to create a positive feedback loop for the members of the community to continually improve Hydro!

Program Details

In total, the program accounts for a maximum of 10% of the total supply of HYDRO over the lifetime of the ecosystem. Allocations for successful contributions are given under one of the eight categories shown below. Each category has a dedicated portion of the HCDP supply based on its impact, scope, and difficulty.

The quantities shown above represent the maximum amount of HYDRO that may be given out under each category over the lifetime of the Hydro ecosystem. Over time, anywhere from 0% to 100% of these quantities may be allocated from each category, for a total of 0-1,111,111,111 tokens.

Explanations and Examples

Now let’s take a closer look at the individual categories and examples of submissions that would be accepted under the program. 

SDKs and Code Libraries

 SDKs and Code Libraries are important to ease the integration of Hydro into existing applications. For instance, we have written JavaScript and Python SDKs for our Server-Side and Client-Side Raindrop products. Tools like these, that we feel enhance the functionality and decentralization of the Hydro ecosystem, are considered as part of this bounty.

Integrations and Expansions

While SDKs and Code Libraries facilitate processes within the Hydro ecosystem, integrations and expansions broaden the ecosystem as a whole. An example of this might be a wrapper that connects Hydro smart contracts to systems. Here is an example of a C# wrapper from a community member.

Other examples would be third-party API integrations into the Hydrogen Atom or Hydro APIs, such as KYC APIs, document signing APIs, payment APIs, and more. Our engineering team will be working on an open architecture format to make this process simple and streamlined in the future.

Hydro Incubation Initiative Hydro Incubation Initiative is designed to support approved projects building out applications that leverage the Hydro ecosystem. Our Block Tank event is an example of ways Hydrogen will engage with the community to encourage project incubation.

An example of an incubation project that would be approved is the following:

A micro-investing platform in Africa encouraging savings and investing for the emerging middle class. The app would use Hydro for mobile based authentication and security, client onboarding, and funding.

To be approved for this project, we would want the entrepreneur to have a strong technical background and knowledge of the FinTech ecosystem in Africa.

Community Contests 

Hydro has not yet created any community contests. When we create them, they will be announced on our Twitter, Telegram, Reddit, and other media. Examples of this might include a merchandise design contest, or community vote on token burning.

Live Implementations

This section of HCDP is reserved for developers who implement awesome products and services within the Hydro ecosystem. Live implementations are important to the growth of the Hydro ecosystem as a whole. The best live implementations will be decided by a democratic community consensus vote.Here is an example of what a live implementation of the Hydro API looks like, below we show how the frontend engineering team at Hydrogen connected the Raindrop to our login process:

Document Translations

Document translations are run through a channel on our Discord. Once a language reservation is approved, you will have one week to complete the translation before the reservation opens up again. To be approved for reservation, a language must have a minimum of 20 million native speakers. Translations must preserve the formatting of the original document. Diagrams do not require translation, though these translations would be appreciated. Here is an example of a Hydro document translation that was completed in the past.

Educational Content

Third-party content about Hydro or Hydro products can be submitted as part of the Hydro Community Development Program and will be reviewed.Content can come in many forms — examples are videos, articles, and graphics about Hydro. Content approvals will be based on need as well as quality, for which we hold a very high standard. No content that speculates on token price, trading, or attempts at market manipulation will be considered. Content may not use Hydro branding without approval.Approved content should include details about the technology developed by the Project Hydro community. The goal of the content should be to educate developers or potential users globally on how to interact with the Hydrogen ecosystem. Please do not scrape items that already exist in company produced whitepapers or marketing materials and re-post them, original content is accepted only. Here is an example of content that would be approved under the guidelines of the program: Technical Study: OAuth 2.0 Integration Into Hydro Raindrop

In this example, we provided a detailed and technical overview, with actual code snippets, of how the Hydro Raindrop would be paired with popular authorization protocol OAuth 2.0. Publishing this in developer communities would further Hydrogen’s mission of creating a global and decentralized Web 3.0 with connections to existing systems and technologies. It provides a real-world action plan that would help thousands of companies integrate the Hydro APIs. Content of similar quality is expected for this program.

Miscellaneous

This section of the Community Development Program is reserved for contributions which may arise over time which we feel do not fit well into any of the other categories.

HCDP Submission Details

Members of the Hydro community may make an official HCDP submission by heading to the HCDP GitHub and creating an issue. Once received, the submission will be reviewed by the Hydro team. If approved, submissions will receive an allocation of HYDRO tokens! The table below outlines the ranges that apply to successfully approved submissions across relevant categories. A single member of the Hydro community may also receive multiple allocations if he or she has multiple approved submissions.

The allocations seen above represent quantities of HYDRO tokens given for successfully approved submission. Categories that do not appear above do not have set ranges — allocation sizes for said categories are provided on a case-by-case basis due to the number of undefined variables involved.

Language Reservations

For translations of Hydro White Papers, community members may reserve certain languages to prevent the potential duplication of work. When a language is reserved, there is a 7-day period to complete the translation successfully. In the event this does not happen, we will reopen the language to the rest of the community. This post will be updated to reflect any active reservations.To reserve a language, please make a post in the #translation-languages channel on the Hydrogen Discord server.
