Blockchain Is Taking Esports and TCG by Storm
Recently, I was taking a look at blockchain games and came across one that is looking to become the first blockchain based esport. With backing from various organizations including Coinbase in addition to a team who has previously worked on games such as Etherbots, Gods Unchained is positioned to make a successful entrance into the esports world.
With mechanics working very similar to Hearthstone, Gods Unchained distinguishes itself from the already popular game by providing ownership of cards to players through the Ethereum blockchain. There are only a fixed number of cards produced, and each card has a provable rarity thanks to the immutability of the blockchain.
To further the games integrity, Hyperion, one of four “mythic” cards produced, has recently been sold at auction for 146 Ethereum. Combined with the current $314,000 (up to 1.6 million) prize pool for the world championship, one would be hard pressed to deny Gods Unchained’s ability to disrupt e-sports as we know it.
