US: Crypto Initiative Donates Monero to Bail Out Immigrants in ICE Detention
In a tweet on November 15, Bail Bloc co-founder announced that Monero donations were being used in bailing out people out of the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) custody. Crypto startup Bail Bloc helps charged immigrants who can afford bail money by raising funds for them via crypto mining. To this end, the firm has rolled out an app which once installed consumes 10%-50% of the computer power of users in mining Monero. Per the firm, XMR was chosen as it is ASIC-resistant crypto. The Monero donations received is converted to US Dollars and sent to New Haven's Immigrant Bail Fund. Per the Bail bloc's website, 44.34 XMR have been mined, approximately $7356.36, which is capable of bailing out 12 immigrants.
