Bill Gates: "I'd Short Bitcoin!..." - So Why Don't You Just Do It?

It's quite typical for the big guys to throw out catchy lines and statements, which surprisingly never turn out to become reality. Like 99% of all those "I'd do that" or "I would never" statements turn out to be hot air after all.

Just like the case of Bill Gates these days, who publicly stated that he'd short Bitcoin if there would be an easy way to do it. Well honestly Mr. Gates, why don't you just do it instead of ending the sentence with an excuse on its own. I'm sorry but for me that's just hot air once again from a big guy who wants to be mentioned in some news headlines again...

As a billionaire I'm fairly sure he got some finance guys handling his wealth, so it would not even cost him a minute to tell them to short the hell out of Bitcoin. Actually I'm quite sure some other big guys might eventually take the bet against him in case he'd actually mean it.

Anyways I think he won't do it as he's just too scared to be wrong after all. I mean as a tech guy he should know what huge potential cryptocurrency bear for the people and the world overall.

What Do You Guys Think?

He would never short Bitcoin, he knows its only headed up!!

Follow what they say? You will be cheated!

Better do the opposite I guess, but even then they might just be foolin you

I wouldn't lose any sleep over Bill Gates' predictions for Bitcoin. He might've been a software genius, but that doesn't mean he knows the future.

Remember, he was the guy who predicted, in the 90s, that the Internet wouldn't be a big deal (just as it was taking off). Microsoft had to play catch-up for years because he didn't think it'd happen.

So, carry on Bill, make your predictions - you obviously haven't learnt from history, so we'll add this one to your list of crazy quotes.

As for the other billionnaires who're so dismissive. You have to understand their positions. They're heavily invested in companies who stand to lose a LOT if they're displaced by cryptocurrencies. So of course they'll lash out if they see an opportunity to slow it down.

But these are smart people. They can say one thing, and do another. It's called hedging.

Fluff coming from his end, for the moment.

I think his involvement in the world of politics and finance would find a load of walls rising around him if he were to get serious with such allegations. Meanwhile, I have the feeling he is becoming aware of the potential cryptocurrencies have for this world and simply by mentioning them gives them exposure while not looking too serious about it... Time will tell.

Thanks for this interesting piece of news and the opportunity to comment on this subject.

Namaste :)

Hey,
sorry for my late reply. You actually got a great point there as really any publicity is actually good publicity in the long run. Short term price changes are quite irrelevant after all while one looks at the bigger picture.

Let's send him a link to Bitmex!

Exactly!

It’s all just invested interests and trying to protect those. Total smoke and mirror plays by all these old world billionaires.

Check out one of the Winklevoss Twins’ sassy replies though haha:

It’s on the same exchange as every other market you’d long. How much easier does it need to be??

🤓.

Yeah it's really just an rmpty statement after all. Quite sad for a guy like him who should know the potential of btc.

I would like to share this video. Bill gates was of the belief that bitcoin was better than fiat currency. Then he talked to buffet about how his portfolio is doing and told buffet he's bought bitcoin. The rest is history and now he wants to short bitcoin.

It's surprising that a techie like him can be so apprehensive about effects of technological innovations. Or maybe he realizes that open source and decentralized blockchain is a big threat to his and others data controlling servers.
He has forgotten where he comes from.

We would need to backtrack deep into the past and check how many things he has said and not done across the years, at least to me this reflects a positive view of Bitcoin and possibly other crypto-currencies, he could have said to not touch cryptos because they are a scam and that would have been an unnecessary fud storm.
