I think with a lot of these coins, people are buying at very low prices and then using their influence to then tout it as the next big thing, pumping up the price and then they sell. Very similar to the stock market. Also a lot of people are hoping for the next bitcoin to make it big. Most of these alt coins are useless and fade away into nothing.
