Chartering the waters of Crypto

Being a traditional investor and new to crypto currency, it has become apparent that it is the Wild West. I don't say that in a good way. Everyday that passes, I find it harder and harder to believe that Bitcoin will succeed because of all the charlatans and scum bags it has attracted.
I firmly believe that Bitcoin could be a life raft for society to take the power back from central banks but the echo system needs to clean it self up and develop a respectable board of governors that actually certifies or rates decent projects.
If not, I believe this will go down as the biggest failed social experiment of the century.
