Bitcoin's been hitting the news A LOT recently after its startling surge in value, with the cost of a bitcoin now worth a gigantic $14,668 (£10,981) compared with being worth under $1,000 toward the start of the year.

From individuals who've turned out to be ridiculously wealthy after investing into it (Winklevoss twins, our first Bitcoin Billionaires) to individuals who regret turning down bitcoin (Lily Allen, who rejected a Bitcoin payment for a gig), there's a ton of disorder kicking off in the world of digital currency.

But this one's a particular shocker, as nearly $64 million (£48 million) has been stolen by hackers, who broke into bitcoin mining marketplace NiceHash

The hack was 'a highly professional attack with sophisticated social engineering', which brought about around 4,700 bitcoin being stolen, said NiceHash head of marketing Andrej P Škraba. Also, thanks to the rise in value, those four thousand-odd bitcoin were worth an incredible $63.92m (£47.77m) at current costs.

The digital currency marketplace- which matches individuals hoping to offer handling time on their PCs for 'miners' to verify bitcoin users' transactions, in return for the bitcoin - needed to suspend operations on Thursday while it investigated. Working with law enforcement to work out what the heck had happened, NiceHash additionally encouraged clients to change their passwords.
