Ross Ulbricht 'Free Ross' Account Gets Hacked

in #bitcoin8 years ago (edited)

The family of the convicted Silk Road administrator Ross Ulbricht, recently posted that they had their 'Free Ross' account hacked and that those hackers still have control over their e-mail.

The hackers were also able to get control and access to their Twitter account through the e-mail. They are warning that the hackers might be trying to solicit funds with the e-mail address, and trying to pose as the Ulbricht's family/defense team. They've warned that until further notice, any e-mail received from that account is not coming from them.

Bitcoin enthusiast Roger Ver took to his Twitter to condemn the actions and asked individuals not to make any more donations to do the compromised e-mail and other data. The hack comes just a few weeks after a free ross-a-thon was held in the beginning of December, in an effort to try and raise funds to support Ulbricht's appeal process and legal fees.

Ver says that whoever the hacker is, they even tried to connect with him on Twitter by sending him a direct message and pretending to be Ross Ulbricht's mother. Ver says that they were looking for a loan, but that he knew right away that it wasn't the right person, and he insists that the hackers might not be native English speakers.

It is likely that a new e-mail address might be established but until that time people are urged not to send any more funding to that compromised account.

As it currently stands, the Free Ross organization has had their e-mail compromised along with their phone numbers, twitter account, addresses, Paypal account, and their bitcoin accounts.

Thank you for sharing the story.

As I said before it was the God damn government. Wanting to cover up their illegal shit.

I think you mean 'condemn' not 'condone'. To condone is to forgive the activity. I don't think that is the meaning you were looking for.

Bitcoin enthusiast Roger Ver took to his Twitter to condone the actions and asked individuals not to make any more donations to do the compromised e-mail and other data.

thank u! sometimes it changes the words after i've typed it and yes i know the diff between the two lol

How were Bitcoin 'accounts' hacked? This is upsetting given what that family has been through and what we all [should] know by now about securing bitcoins.
