Next Generation of Tech Geniuses Signing Up to Study Cryptocurrencies

In a nod towards the direction cryptocurrencies are heading, the youth of the globe are surging towards university courses that offer teaching in cryptography, as well as cryptocurrency.

The value of Bitcoin is soaring, and students are identifying a new market that is emerging that they are trying to ready themselves for with university accredited courses.

Hugely popular
Dan Boneh, co-director of the Stanford Computer Security Lab and a professor of cryptography has noted that security and cryptography represent the second-most popular subject in the university's computer science department, behind only machine learning.

He added: "A lot of people are attracted to the huge valuations in these currencies. Cryptocurrencies are a wonderful way to teach cryptography. There are a whole bunch of new applications for cryptography that didn't exist before."

The rise in popularity has been comparable to the growth of the digital currency which is making all the noise, Bitcoin. It has hit the mainstream in a big way, and now there is a second wave of those who are looking to be more than just investors in the potentially revolutionary technology.

In 2015, Boneh began teaching a class on Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies and was quickly attracting over 100 students. Boneh said that more than one mln people have signed up for an online cryptography class he teaches through the website Coursera.

What I've also noticed lately is the rise of online for profit companies offering cryptocurrency courses. I'm not talking about in depth cryptography rather how to use Poloniex courses.

Yes, You're right!!!

TBH, the interesting part (and i NO way my intent is to pick on @ataayo, everybody is entailed to their opinions and i respect that) is that they are modest. in % terms there are only what 50% above the current price. I've seen Goldman Sachs making more outlandish calls ( a $200+ per barrel of oil), so it might not be that far fetched especially given the influx of new people into the ecosystem

Great post

Here’s a great free course on Bitcoin and blockchain engineering! https://www.coursera.org/learn/cryptocurrency

Yes this is an amazing post, the future is literally being built as we speak!

I would like to take a chance to mention #Gridcoin as it is a crypto currency that rewards you or letting them use your pc through a software called Boinc. Boinc uses your computer to compute algorithms in hopes of finding cures for cancer, aids, and even trying to find extraterrestrial life.

Gridcoin Is truly one of a kind, as you wont only be mining for the coin, but for cures and things that can better the human race.

Not to mention, how easy they actually make it for you to mine. I believe it is a coin worth looking into.

This is really good for the Crypto space to grow

I think the increasing willingness to study about crypto-currencies is a very good development.

I would like to add one thing, unfortunately, as I can say from my College, the subject has not arrived here yet:

Until now, I have not heard of any research funding, which is directly attributed to study and research crypto-currencies, and everything that is related to it, as such. It will take some further time until we can see courses and research becoming mainstream on campus.
