Birding a Wedding

Today I spent most of the day attending the wedding of the daughter of a friend and business partner of mine, but as any true birder would do I birded a bit at and after the wedding. Maybe the most confusion part of birding today was figuring out what species of dove was calling all through the wedding and reception. We have four species of pigeons/doves in our area. I know for sure I was not hearing a Eurasian Collared Dove, a Mourning Dove or a Band-tailed Pigeon, but thought it might be an atypical feral Rock Pigeon. On a break from the festivities I discovered a large cave with many white pigeons kept there, of a species not any of our wild doves. I believe they were white Java Doves Streptopelia risoria, as they looked overall smaller and more delicate than our feral Rock Doves, and sure sounded different.

Other than that the star bird of the wedding was an immature Bald Eagle that was just starting to "branch" out of its nest high in a tree just above the event center. I took no photos of these birds so as not to disturb the wedding.

I did manage to bird at the nearby Fairhaven Park after leaving the wedding. I managed the photo above of a Hairy Woodpecker, as well as shots of the Wilson's Warbler below.

I had planned to bird for a while and stay the night locally and bird my way home tomorrow, but a White-tailed Ptarmigan with chicks has been found near the Sunrise Entrance to Mt. Rainier, so I came home to head there in the morning.

Wilson,s warbler is very cute bird,
photography is very nice.

I loved the color on the Warbler. I would have a better chance of spotting that one. :)

I always enjoy your posts, and I am surprised at the quality of the bird pictures you post. I especially like the Warbler! The woodpecker is camouflaged to almost match the wood he is on.
