Good post.
The point regarding people investing time in a social bond is valid and in principle I agree. However for some it would be a little frustrating.
I'll give an example.
I made a post yesterday that currently has 12 Upvotes and the first comment immediately got 19 votes. Take a look.

I'm not bothered as the comment was positive however I'm sure some new adopters would find it weird.
I have never been involved in any social media before so no Facebook, Twitter or YouTube followers so I guess that makes a difference.
And I work anonymously so no family or friends either.
