THE DIARY GAME 3 - 5th Nov - hospital stay

in #betterlife4 years ago (edited)

Funny thing the internet... being in hospital means spending a lot of time online, means I found Steemit and am now writing this post.

I guess it’s a bit cathartic so just bear with me and indulge me for a couple of minutes. This is a mother sitting in a dark room staring at a monitor and at her sleeping daughter just hoping we’ll be discharged tomorrow. But it’s not looking likely... 😔

On Sunday my daughter started to cough a bit, and was complaining of tightness in her chest. We thought: winter bug, maybe a cold. Still, kept her off school on Monday and took her for a Covid test that morning.

By the time we were driving back home the cough was getting more intense and by bedtime I felt something wasn’t quite right. To be honest I was in two minds if I should ring the out of hours doctor or just give her some paracetamol and wait until the next morning to ring our own GP. Decided to ring and ended up having to rush to A&E!

You see, on the advice of a friend, at the beginning of the pandemic I bought an oximeter. That was the measure the doctor over the phone used to say we should be seeking the emergency department. Everyone should have one at home, like a thermometer.

Cutting a long story short... she’s no coronavirus, she was having a severe asthma attack, first time in her life! There is a family history but to be honest I did not see this one coming.

She was admitted to hospital Monday night and we’ve been here since then, nebulisations, steroids, oxygen... my poor baby is desperate to go home but, as much as she’s improved dramatically, she’s still needing oxygen at night so they won’t let her home.

So what we’re doing is playing games, talking loads to family on video calls and surfing the web. Found Steemit. Found the diary game. Guna give it a go ☺️
