I've always enjoyed traveling by train. I've been on night trains a few times in Finland and also in Russia. My longest train trip took me from the northernmost railway station in Finland in Kolari, near the Swedish border northwestern Lapland. I was a student and my parents and I were making holiday in a ski resort near Kolari. I had to be in Helsinki to take part in some seminar or something (that was over 20 years ago). The section from Kolari to Tornio on the sea coast some 200 km or so to the south was particularly slow because it is only used during the holiday season and it is unelectrified. It did not bother me because I just went to the restaurant car, ordered a beer (and a few more as the night progressed) and very quickly found people to talk to. The distance must have been over 1000 km.
When I was going to UDC I did take a subway train from Maryland to right in front of my school in DC.
How long was the distance?
Don’t know the actual distance but I believe it took me about 30-45 minutes to ride the subway from Fort Totten to my school.
I have been on some overnight trains but want to do it in luxury. I know obviously of the Orient Express but that is out of my price range for now. Maybe a few years of Steemit and it will be a treat.
What's really impressive about that was how the smooth ride was despite the bullet-like speed. The speed is just a number until you see it going under the bridge in this video.
