BAYANIHAN: Announcing the Steemit Philippines Curation ProjectsteemCreated with Sketch.

in #bayanihan7 years ago (edited)

Each day, the Filipino Steemit community continues to grow, and support in any way comes in from every direction. If there is one thing Filipinos are always proud of, it is our concept of communal spirit - the bayanihan spirit. From the Filipino word "bayan," which translates into nation, the bayanihan spirit showcases just how much we seek to make the impossible possible by virtue of unity.

Thus introducing The Bayanihan Curation Project.

Bayanihan Project

The Project: What is it about?

The Bayanihan Project aims to :

(1) find and support Filipino Steemians, as well as
(2) promote content creation in Filipino and other local languages.

It is composed of a curation team of enthusiastic, young Steemians who are eager to learn new things and help their fellow countrymen. This group of individuals includes @deveerei, @dreamiely, @erangvee, @immarojas, @jassennessaj, @juvyjabian, and @themanualbot.

Along with us are respected Steemit mentors and curators, @donkeypong, @jrcornel, @hanshotfirst, @acidyo and @surpassinggoogle, who have all been very supportive from the very beginning.

The Project: How will it work?

The abovementioned curators will find deserving posts by Filipino authors, as described by the following guidelines:

  1. Authors. The project will focus on content from Filipino and Philippine-based content-creators, who showcased support on Filipino community growth here at Steemit.
  2. Original content. Inclusive but not limited to arts, poetry, music, write-ups (fiction, non-fiction, blogs, reviews, simplified technical/scientific reports, and so on), and more -- as long as your work is by you alone. Some notes to remember:
  3. Language. Filipino authors may post in either English or Filipino (Tagalog, Bisaya, Bikolano, and the like; highly encouraged). Use the tags
  4. Frequency. Any single author’s works may be upvoted only once in 24 hours to ensure that the reward is shared to a wider audience.
  5. Content Age. Any quality content 24 hours away from payout is still eligible for curation.

The Project: How can you give back support?

We will be direct in this section. It will be the same support needed by other growing communities.

  1. Upvote, resteem, and follow. We will be more strict in choosing and curating Filipino posts. If you ever find a curated post (or any post by a Filipino author) to be very well written and thus deserves an upvote, then upvote it. If it needs more attraction from other users, then do resteems. And lastly, if you like the author because of the genuineness and truthfulness of his/her works, then follow this author.
  2. Support the team and its curators. It will be such a huge responsibility to handle this growing community and we cannot do this without the support from our fellow Filipino Steemians and veteran Steemians. A support for a curator means a support for the whole community.
  3. Support our curating account @bayanihan. @bayanihan is the curation account made for resteeming and upvoting deserving Filipino posts. You can support this account by delegating SP to this curation account; just contact any one of our sponsors, @donkeypong, @jrcornel, @hanshotfirst, @acidyo, or @surpassinggoogle on steemit.chat.

Message from the Team

We believe that Steemit is for all, especially for countries that continue to progress. The Philippines is one of them. The Philippines is an archipelago of 7,107 islands, thus a difficulty in putting up a solid foundation for a Filipino community.

We are aware that there are many Filipino communities in the platform; we can say that we are really divided by boundaries on many aspects. One thing that motivates us to push this initiative of unifying all quality Filipino posts and communities is the following thought,

“We think of the same goal: to lift up Filipino spirits by helping them engrave good recognition on this blockchain-based social media.”

Also, we’ll never deny the fact that poverty is inevitable in our country, and thus, Steemit helps us lessen this burden that we always see and feel within ourselves and others. We are calling the attention of other small Philippine communities here on this platform -- please support what we are building. Always remember that at the end of the day, we are all Filipinos and we aim the same thing: to help our countrymen.

"Maraming Salamat!" | "Daghang Salamat!" | "Thank you so much!”

Sige sir, contact lang dayun tika :)

I don't understand why you all seem to be encouraging people to write in Filipino. Fair enough if people aren't comfortable writing in English but for the ones who are then they'll do much better on here sticking to English.

There is also a large audience in the search engines and these posts do good in the search engines for steemit growth. We also encourage going the extra mile, so some endeavor to write an English translation of the Filipino posts within the same post

ok mate, up to you guys. I personally disagree though, all the big Filipino websites write in English. Lazada etc and they're websites aimed solely at the Philippines. I'm sure they'll of tested writing in Tagalog instead.

Well i don't disagree either. Steemit is at a phase currently that involves steemit growth and so there is reason for this. There are many underlying reasons for things that happen on steemit. Overall, i try to admonish people who write in Filipino, to exert themselves if possible to write the English translation as well.

I like reading it and on my own experience I realized that it is better to write a message in English anyway, as it is better perceived.

They can choose to write english or filipino language.

'Filipino (Tagalog, Bisaya, Bikolano, and the like; highly encouraged)'

I was referring to this which I've seen quite a few other people mention too.

I am honestly more comfortable in writing (and, yeah, speaking) in English. But I know a lot of Filipinos (some of my relatives and friends) who want to join Steemit but are literally "scared" of the notion of having to write in English. Often they would ask me if they are "required" to write in English and would supply that they are not confident with the language. I had to show them that they can write as comfortably as they want.

By having the community support the use of our local languages here on Steemit (via posting in Tagalog, Bisaya, etc), we encourage other Filipinos to join the platform and consequently not be pressured to write in a language they are not comfortable with. Of course, we support Pinoys and expats who write in English just as much. 😉 In the end, what matters is that we get to support the Philippine community here on Steemit.

Thanks for pointing that out, @dan90! 😊 (That was a really long comment; sorry about that. 😂)

My post are all in English language though :)

Me too, I just think it would be cool to have an all Bisaya post, keep the Cebuano dialect alive in the blockchain, and other dialects as well before they are wiped out by all locals being more confident writing in English.

Not all Filipinos are fluent in English and they're afraid of getting criticized. We're trying to replicate growth just as #kn did, also look at #cn.

@dan90
The Project is called Bayanihan and I think encouraging Filipinos to join steemit and write in Pilipino is not bad at all. It will even motivate those who are not profound in english to join steemit... sometimes , it is a matter of self-confidence . I´ve been seeing lots of steemians from Germany and Austria writing in german only, there are koreans and chinese writing in their own scripts. Some Filipinos may not be comfortable to write in english because they never have the chance to practice english in real life. If we are to ask them to write in english only, then they may be discouraged and would not join at all.

In my recent experience in submitting my entry for Potograpiyang Pilipino, I found it hard to translate some of my thoughts in Filipino. But that said, it was a fun experience overall. And I don't see anything wrong when users post in vernacular. But yes, for the benefit of the international audience, translations should be provided. I think posting in Filipino makes us appreciate our heritage more, while providing translation makes one's post not alienating. So win-win.^^

the steemit community of the Philippines, will continue to grow, I from Indonesia will be willing to support you are.

Glad to hear that.

Thank you so much. Glad to hear that.

Thank you! i hope we support each other more with quality content, makes it easier for people to like each other's posts, not to mention more genuine. upvoted and followed :)
