Bangla New Year (Pahela Boishakh-14 April)
Pahela Baishakh or Bengali New Year,also called Pohela Boishakh,is the first day of Bengali Calendar.It is celebrated on 14 April as a national holiday in Bangladesh.
- Mughal Emperor Akbar first introduced the Bengali New Year and official Bengali calendar to ease the tax collection process.
- Mangal Shobhajatra is attractive part of Pohela Baishakh in Bangladesh.UNESCO recognises Mangal Shobhajatra as cultural heritage.

The day is celebrated with traditional festivities across the country. The rural people arrange Baishakhi Mela on this day. Shopkeepers open halkhata and offer sweets to their customers and clients.
