Guide to Thailand: Koh Chang

Koh Chang, an island not far from the border to Cambodia, offers something for every tourist. Beautiful beaches with a sunset in the sea, which is not to be seen everywhere in Thailand.

Getting here!

To reach Koh Chang you can charter a taxi or minibus to get to hotel after arriving in Bangkok. The journey time on the well-maintained roads is about 3 hours. Or you can fly to Trat and take a taxi. Flying is not very expensive in Thailand and a very common means of transport. If you dare to take part in Thailand's left-hand traffic, rent a rental car at the airport and drive the route yourself. Car rentals in Thailand are not expensive. Driving itself takes some getting used to because it is quite easy on the roads. Arrived in Trat, you take the ferry to Koh Chang. The ferries, in Thailand called Ferrys, run every 30-45 minutes. The crossing alone is a feast for the eyes and takes about 40 minutes.

The island!

Arrival at the small ferry port and after leaving the ferry, one joins the traffic and simply follows the masses moving in the direction of the tourist areas. Before reaching the dreamlike beaches, the driver has to get the last thing out of his car in order to climb a mountain, over which the road winds in serpentines. At the top you have a wonderful view of the main tourist area of this island, the White Sand Beach, where tourism on this island started. There you will find hotels of all price categories, diving schools, restaurants and everything you need to get the money out of Farang. Koh Chang is not the cheapest island. Especially on White Sand Beach. But the island is big enough. If you take your time and drive a car around the island, you will be rewarded with the most beautiful views of untouched beaches and nature. In the interior of the island you can still find real jungle and if you go for a walk you should be careful not to get hit by a falling coconut. As on all Thai islands above or below water, the water is simply fantastic.
