Crypto Overview, BANCOR (BNT)
What is this? https://steemit.com/research/@juanplemus/research-summary
8 AUGUST, 2017 - BANCOR (BNT) - SMART TOKENS - MC $99,740,227 - RANK 48 - PRICE $2.45
Basics: Created 1:1 from ETH raised. 80% went towards development and 20% is held as an ETH reserve to assure liquidity for tokens in the network. According to the whitepaper increased demand for any of the network’s smart tokens increases demand for the common BNT markets and vice versa. Could not find added benefit to being a token holder.
Proposition: Continuous liquidity and asynchronous price discovery for tokens through their smart contracts.
Functionality: Attempts to achieve a price-discovery model by constantly readjusting the current price of tokens toward an equilibrium between the purchase and liquidation volumes. The Bancor protocol can enable liquidity in that tokens can be purchased or sold by a single party, using the calculated price, removing the need for seller and buyer to be simultaneously matched.
Value: By using the Bancor protocol, small-scale currencies with a low expected trade volume can offer continuous liquidity, thus, removing the barrier for them to be linked to the global economy. This increases the chance to bring about a new generation of creative use-cases. It reduces resistance in the current system by providing continuous liquidity, no extra fees, no spread, predictable price slippage and lower volatility.
Innovation: The Bancor protocol proposes to advance the domain of asset exchange by replacing the need for labor with a technological solution to the existing coincidence of wants problem. Allows for decentralized token exchanges.
Team: Organized as a foundation. Fully disclosed team members, some well known and experts in their fields, with most of them having linkedin accounts. Qualified to accomplish their goals. The whitepaper is well written with clear explanations. Nice, well structured website.
Affinity: Providing liquidity for small community driven tokens thus stimulating the creative uses for cryptocurrencies is something we are curious about. Will it hinder market manipulation? If it does, then it promotes a better space for exchanging and storing value, something we would like to participate in.
First take: Can the BNT network really be valuable?
Opportunity: At the moment we’re not convinced BNT is an exciting investment. Isn’t it just better to hold ETH since BNT is backed by an ETH reserve and the value of BNT will be closely linked to it? Will small volume cryptocurrencies be valuable? Can the BNT network avoid price manipulation? We can’t see a real upside to holding BNT at the moment, but we are looking forward to seeing how the network progresses.
This is an opinion and I might have missed some very important information that can alter this overview of BANCOR. I'll gladly engage in discourse that can provide different viewpoints on the value of BANCOR. Please visit their site at https://www.bancor.network/
I just started to look into this a few days ago. I'm intrigued by the thought of limited liquidity. I have a user issued asset on Bitshares that I want to link it to a user issued asset on Bancor.
I want to try it out. Thanks for the post.
I'd like to know how the user experience with the asset goes. Keep me posted.
Will do.
