Moving Forward
About a month ago I posted this little article as a farewell and fuck off to the Steem platform. But given the intervening time to think things completely through, consider steem.com and the other dApps on the Steem blockchain, and really consider things from a big picture perspective, I'm seeing now that I might have been a tad hasty.
Does this mean I think I was wrong about almost anything I said? No.
What does it mean, then?
Well, it means that I'm realizing that Steem is such a good idea for a currency.... that how incompetent the company is that runs it may not matter. As long as they can keep maintenance of the chain up, and making even the smallest improvements at regular intervals, nothing else may ultimately matter.
There is still no other currency that you can start accruing essentially for free (except for maybe Lino).
There is still no other currency that allows you to express value without directly giving out of your own pocket quickly, simply, and as an expression of the value you yourself have already had with the platform.
If I really want to leave Steemit, the correct solution isn't to jump ship, at least not at the moment.
Now is the time to double down on my commitment to Steem.
So my plan as it currently stands is thus:
Power down enough to build a new rig (computer). I won't be able to immediately, but if the price of Steem hits 3 dollars in the next half a year I'll have the requisite amount of liquid Steem to take full advantage. In the meanwhile, I'll continue to accrue Steem.
When the time comes, I'm definitely coming to start pivoting toward some other currencies in order to diversify a bit more.
In conclusion, other blockchains are starting to catch wise to the magic of Steem, but they're not really here yet. In the meantime Steem has an enormous head start and pretty great community. If Steemit Inc. can manage to at least get communities out (let alone SMT's), we might actually have something brewing here.
But the time to invest is when faith is low. And mark my words: faith is at an all-time low.
