죽순은 식물계의 ‘치타’
죽순은 식물계의 ‘치타’라 불릴 만합니다.
지난 4일, 땅에서 머쓱이 고개를 내밀던 녀석이, 어제 아침 운동중에 보니 벌써 제 키와 비슷해지려하네요. 위 사진처럼 첫 번째 컷에선 "앗, 새순이구나!" 싶은데, 아래 컷에선 "엇, 언제 이렇게 컸지?"라는 말이 절로 나옵니다.
인터넷 자료에 따르면 죽순은 하루에 30~40cm는 기본, 비라도 내리고 따뜻하면 하루에 1m 이상도 자란다니, 이건 거의 초고속 성장 AI 수준 아닌가요? 일본에서는 하루 1m 20cm 자란 기록도 있다니 실화냐 싶습니다.
그러나 이렇게 무섭게 크는 죽순도 10일이 지나면 대나무로 변해 딱딱해지고, 식용으로는 부적합진다고 하네요. 그래서 죽순 채취는 마치 ‘속도전’ 같죠.

죽순은 기다려주지 않는다.
