Automotive industry worker's perspective of TESLA
As you all know, #Tesla has been the center of attention in the automotive industry. The way they do business is new, refreshing and people are getting on board. But what i want to share with you is my experience on the engineering and production side of thing. This is my opinion, my point of views. I would like to share you guys perspective.
First off, I would like to tell you a bit about myself in the #Automotive industry. I've been working in the automotive field for just over 10 years. I am from Canada and my expertise is in the Metal stamping area and also in plastic and rubber injection. I've started as a Tool maker and made my way up as a CAD tool designer, then later as a program manager, platform manager an account manager. I've work with almost all of the OEM; FCA, Honda, Volks, Audi, BMW, Mercedes, GM, Toyota and Tesla. I've travel all across north America, Mexico, Europe, Japan and in a few weeks China.
It is the dream #job i've always wanted, but the automotive industry is all screwed up. How stuff is manage is painful. Mostly for dealing with a lot of people on different level. It takes forever to have direction. A lot of information is kept secret and it delays a lot of the car building process. About a year Ago we work with Tesla on some Warm formed aluminium sheet metal. For you guys that know a bit more about cars. We were suppliying Tooling and parts for the Tesla model X. The parts are the Upper and Lower Liftgate ans both rear quarter Panel.

The difference with Tesla that set them appart is they are taking risk and are spending money on the development process. Instead of trying to reduce the cost to a minimum they invest upfront. I think they will challenge all the other OEM. At first they were not feared but today they lead the way. There next challenge will be to keep this mindset once they have to mass-produce car. I hope they will keep pushing the automotive industry in a new era.
I would like to discuss more with you guys about your experiences.
It is interesting topic, but we shouldn't forget about the oldschool technologies. I personally dont like the idea of fully electrified cars. By electrifiied I mean that they are fully dependant on electricity. If something goes wrong you are screwed! What do you think about that?
