Autism: The UK Education system still do not understand it.

in #autism7 years ago

As a parent to a child with autism, I have been shocked by the lack of provisions for my child within education. My son was diagnosed with Autism a week before his 5th birthday and I was sent out of the doctors office with a few leaflets on what autism was and that was it.

Today I got his EHCP, (A legally binding contract on how he should be educated based on his disability), six years after diagnosis.

My child has had to struggle for six years with education, with so-called experts letting him down repeatedly.

When he was diagnosed, my dad's friend told me I would have to fight for everything that he needed and I am so sad to report he was right.

If your child is diagnosed with Autism AND you live in the UK, Be prepared for a long hard fight. Just to get what your child deserves. They make you fight for it.
