Audi revealed the new A6 Avant
Germany is the country of the wagon! About two-thirds of all Audi A6's sold there are Avant. That's why Audi hastened to present its wagon shortly after the launch of A6's saloon as a sedan. The secret of rapid market introduction lies in the development process: for the first time at A6, Audi develops the limousine and the wagon in parallel. So far, the wagon was always based on the already-finished sedan.
With 4.94 m A6 Avant is just about as long as the limousine. The "powerful" front with the ultra-wide radiator grille is familiar to us, and the modern light strip is not found in either version of the A6. On the other hand, the designers have changed the roof line, the D-column and the roof are more tapered. Who thinks that the sporty design is associated with deprivation in terms of freight volume is not far from the truth - it is 565 liters, while folded seats - 1680. So the new A6 C6 is exactly at the level of its predecessor - but the competition from BMW (5 Series Touring: 570-1700 l) and Mercedes (E-Class T-model: 640-1820 l) are doing better! Along with the refreshed vision, Audi gives the A6 a solid batch of high-tech A8 luxury. The A6 has the latest MMI touch response system, all the necessary level 3 autonomous level control sensors and a soft hybrid drive. In the summer of 2018, when the model is on showrooms, the A6 Avant will be available with four motorizations (three diesel and one gasoline)
Cockpit like A7 and A8
Audi promises a more spacious interior. AUTO BILD was able to touch it - in front of the seating position, it was just as good as the limousine. The vehicle in the photos is equipped with individual contour seats, which have extremely rich tuning capabilities. Naturally, they have ventilation and massage function - such extras have long been reserved for the luxury class only. The modern design cockpit is already familiar to us from A7 and A8 (virtual dashboard, 10.1-inch main monitor, underneath it - 8.6-inch display, no rotating and push-fitting, no touchpad). Control without traditional buttons with great "feedback" offers a lot of settings, but it requires calling and besides enjoying it is a matter of taste. Everything works as we expect - but fans of traditional buttons will not be happy with the A6 cockpit.
A lot of space behind
In Ingolstadt, they are very proud of the 11-mm increased knee spot in the rear compared to the C7 interstellar precursor. Even higher passengers on the second row enjoy plenty of space in all directions. Absolutely subjective, the A6 Avant makes the impression of a slightly more spacious than the E-Class T-model and the 5 Series Touring. There are also no classic buttons on the back - air conditioning and seat heating are controlled using a modern touchscreen. Only the Oldschool-glass lifts are like a relic of the past in the high-tech A6 interior.
The electric tailgate and practical rail loading system are the standard equipment required for this class. Without additional charge, A6 customers will also receive LED headlamps, progressive steering and standard steel suspension. Of course, if buyers are willing to untie the purse, Audi will have a lot to intrigue them. For a surcharge, a rear hood with a jog opening sensor, intelligent dipped-beam headlamps, sports differential, and so on. T. "Dynamic 4-wheel steering" should reduce the turning diameter to 11.1 m. For a more attractive look, Audi offers the sport and design lines, and the S-Line exterior package can also be ordered. Of course, the chic 21-inch wheels of the car are the extra-series are 17 ".
Four types of suspension
Not only on the inside but also on the inside, the A6 Avant can be beautifully dressed: customers can choose between four design packages (base, sport, design and S-Line). Each of them comes with its own color combination for the interior. In addition, two different types of ambience lighting can be ordered. Two types of audio systems are provided for the good sound in the compartment - the breeze is equipped with Bang & Olufsen, which also provides passengers with 3D sound. Additional equipment includes an Air Quality package, lighted belt buckles, a panoramic roof and a heated windscreen. For optimal driving dynamics, Audi offers 4 (!) Suspension types. Serial steel should better master the "sword" between stability and comfort. Optional sports suspension (lower by 20 mm), adjustable with adjustable shock absorbers and air adaptive air.
Expectedly, Audi is also paying close attention to connectivity - giving A6 the same equipment as the A7 and A8. The old MMI goes into history and MMI touch response comes with two displays. With the 8.6-inch touchscreen, the seat settings, air conditioning and text input are controlled. Higher is a 10.1-inch touch-sensitive display. A great impression has made us Feedback under pressure - which is tangible and even acoustic. In combination with the virtual instrument panel, classic tools and buttons are almost entirely removed. Voice management is looking for answers to your questions thanks to Cloud technology, and Audi promises that navigation can be "taught" - and will also be updated for free every three months. The total number of assistive systems for A6 is 30 and among them the most attractive are the systems for passing through narrow sections, crossing intersections, etc. To make them work seamlessly, the sensors have an automatic cleaning function.
At the start of sales, the A6 Avant will be available with four motors - as Audi relies primarily on diesel: 2-liter 4-cylinder, 204 hp. and 400 Nm (40 TDI) and two V6 with a volume of 3 liters - with 231 hp. and 500 Nm (45 TDI) and 286 horsepower and 620 Nm (50 TDI). There is a single gasoline unit - 55 TFSI, which is a 3-liter V6 with 340 hp. and 500 Nm. The most powerful engine in the range accelerates the car to its electronically limited top speed of 250 km / h. No matter which engine is selected, A6 is always working as a "soft hybrid". The V6 versions rely on a 48-volt electric grid, and those with a 4-volt conventional 12-volt. The starter generator supplies a lithium-ion battery and recovers up to 12 kW (V6 models). With all 6-cylinder versions, the quattro drive is standard. The gasoline and 4-cylinder diesel engines are combined with a seven-speed twin-clutch transmission (S-tronic). Both diesel V6 deliver their power to the wheels via an 8-speed automatic hydromotor. At a later stage there will be other petrol units as well as sports versions in the face of S6 and RS6.
