Yeah kinda like how Newton came up with a story to compensate for not knowing why stuff fell to the earth...turns out he was right...
Sure if you really want to use the phrase "kinda like" in the broadest sense possible ;)
Btw, we still don't know everything about gravity. Of course, making up stories doesn't help.
