Steemit screech owl swooping
I made some time today to get some pictures together and create this post. Just a couple progress photos and a quick carve owl, nothing special but I haven't been to post as much lately. It's been busy at the shop.
Here is my creation right before varnish:
10 minutes into it. All saw
After some refining...
Torched...
Spray painted him completely black...
Sanded the char off most of it, kind of like raising the grain. Also started on the eyes.
All finished...
Another angle..
I did get some varnish on him as well, thought I'd display it with my Steemit sign to finish off the post.
I hope you enjoy seeing what I saw, I love what I do and happy to share. If so feel free to upvote and resteem.
Thanks for looking

I like the way the owl look after the burning great talent ‼️
Your finished product almost has a metal/bronze look to it. I had to do a double take. Great work! You don't see many wood carvers around much anymore. Like glass blowers, its a dying art .. Obviously you are not letting that happen. Just curious..(non of by business really, so don't answer if you don't want to), Did you learn this from someone close to you? Do you have any children that want to learn this talent? I am always curious if this passion can be taught and passed down through the generations. I pass this place all the time for work, https://www.facebook.com/Ackmonsters/, very talented as well, but your skill seams more refined.
Either way.. Beautiful work! See you around Steemit!
p.s. Hello from New Jersey!!
@bdmillergallery thank you, yes I know the Ackmonster haha big bearded Brian Ackley. A talented and awesome person that guy. My daughter(14) has carved a few pieces and my 2 year old son nothing yet but give it time lol. They both love it...I am self taught with a little help from YouTube and some books.
Our industry though is just getting started and making its way into the fine art category all over. Competitions are now worldwide and growing by the day, we are all working together to evolve the artform. It is truly spectacular, thanks again.
Man, I apologize. I didn’t realize there was such a movement happening. Thanks for filling me in. Small world we live in sometimes. Self taught? Wow. All that more impressive.
No need for apologies, but thank you. Trying to spread awareness of this platform to my community. Bring the movement to Steemit haha. Baby steps...so far so good
For Sure. Best wishes to you and in your efforts.
I swear my grandparents had a similar carving in their house when I was growing up. Yours is so much better than the one I remember. I love the effect the torch causes, and those eyes. Wow, you are a true artist. Great work!

@randomwanderings wow thank you so much, I can add that the chainsaw, or chainsaw carving rather saved me from a dark time and that I was homeless when I started. Built what I have today with nothing but hard work and a chainsaw. I knew my fate was sealed the moment I picked that machine up for the first time. 10 years now and going strong...no regrets...thanks again
Wow Sorprendente

Oh lord! Your art is overhuman... It's amazing to me how You can make this masterpieces with an ordinary and "brutal" instrument. The Owl of Knowledge shall fly over us and light us....
