Untitled Graphite/Charcoal Drawing

in #artzone6 years ago

So, I started this work last year December, the 1st to be precise. It's been slow cos I've had commissions in between and I've been lazy getting to it, at some point, I wondered if I was ever going to finish working on it or if it would join the stack of unfinished drawings. But I really do like to finish what I start, and I think a work stopped halfway through is a waste of time and effort. I finally finished it a few days ago and I got really sad when I stopped working on it. There's this feeling I usually get the last few hours I spend on a drawing, midway through, I'm usually anxious to finish, but when I put the finishing touches, I think to myself, I'm going to miss working on this. As I was drawing, I came across a work I did exactly two years ago and the level of improvement is what I would consider okay, I thought I would be much better though, I'm not totally satisfied with where I am now and I know I could be much better.

Anyways, I always say that I will do something simple after my last work, but things don't usually work out as planned. When I see a reference image that really speaks to me, my prior plans are thrown out. Also, I realized that I draw a lot of water, I honestly can't say why, but there's something about it I always want to capture, could it be the fluidity?

For this work, I used Graphite pencils and powder, charcoal pencils, a tombow eraser, blending stumps, white gel pen for highlights and soft brush. I've probably not included some other things, but these are the most important materials.

Wow very different. Nice picture! @jakeknee

WOW! What an amazing artwork! You should be proud of your work as it's stunning. I think we sometimes put too much expectation on ourselves but it's not needed. Your work is great and this is what counts. You'll get where you want to be, I'm sure about that.

This drawing is better than a photograph. The water looks real and the splash on her face is spot on.

Her skin tone is perfect and I love the tiny details such as pores that you included.

I don't think anything what could be improved on this one :)

Thank you for sharing and have a great weekend!

Hyper-realistic, as always ! The water effect is done brilliantly, and I love how you do her skintone, as well <3
