Learn To Paint Still-Life With @tezzmax In 6 Days - (Day 1).

in ᴀʀᴛ & ᴀʀᴛɪꜱᴛꜱ2 days ago

Good Day Steemians and Art Lovers, 😎

I shared some days ago that I would sharing detailed lessons of how to paint still-life objects, I am making the lessons based on simple objects that can be found around the house, so that way, anyone who plans to practicalize the lessons can easily pick the exact or similar objects around the house.

THE SETUP!

Like is said in my post earlier, @nucleus-tezz is currently in my studio space and she would be my physical student for these lessons that would take place for the next six days. The above images shows my studio and the arranged still-life objects from afar. @nucleus-tezz would also be sharing her own post on her page as a student of these lessons.

These are the objects that myself and @nucleus-tezz arranged artistically to be studied/painted in the next few days, this particular view is from my own end, which means that this image could pass as my own personal reference picture for the study but then, the essence of the study is to learn and experience painting from life rather than making use of a picture reference.

This is my miniature canvas for the study on a board and the board on my easel, getting ready for this very artistic experience, it's definitely going to be mind blowing!

That's me in my corner preparing/sizing my miniature canvas for the lessons!

MATERIALS.

  1. Canvas
  2. Glue
  3. Primer
  4. Board
  5. Easel/Donkey
  6. Light

PRACTICALS!

You need to first select your objects to be studied and have them arranged on a flat surface like in the picture I shared and makes sure you arranged them in a interesting manner and not having all the objects standing or laying down without any drama, it makes the composition borrow if you do so. Setup a light source that would concentrate on the objects you're arranged, the light should be shining over the objects from one specific angle and that would make it even more interesting, Setup your easel/donkey and have you board on it, on your board you can then pin your canvas, although, you could use a ready canvas and stretch of the particular size you desire to paint on, in this case I am not using a stretcher but a board. After pinning your canvas on the board, you get you glue/bond mixed with some water to have it light and then use the thin layer over the surface of your canvas, this process is called sizing in painting, after sizing you wait for the surface of the canvas to get dry and then you apply your first coat of your primer (your primer could be a ready made gesso or a mixed of bond/glue and emulsion paint, mind your the proportion of the mixture should be 2 portions of bond to portion of emulsion, after the application of your first coat of primer, you would leave it to dry and we shall continue tomorrow!!!!!!!!!!!

Kindly share your thoughts, questions, suggestions and contributions as comments below, I'll be glad to read and reply them all, thanks.

Great, my friend. I like the still life theme. A while back, I worked on one with photographs; this was the composition with a lemon, garlic, and onion.
Can I work with this photograph?

And another question, my teacher. I only have colored pencils. Can I work with them? Currently, I don't have any paints or canvas; I'd work in a sketchbook.

@tipu curate

The composition is quite interesting, yes, for now let's see what you can do with your colour pencils and sketchbook.

It's a good idea. Integrating creators and artists. You can always learn, especially if you try, as a learning process, not as imitation. You must understand the process to progress to the next level.
You mention many materials that some people can't afford, or don't have. Although I suppose you can paint with a pencil or a piece of charcoal or chalk. The idea is what it's worth. Every time I paint something, I learn new things.
Let's paint.

Hello friend,
I am only working an teaching based on what I have available at my disposal or what I've learnt to use, you can always improvise if need be.

Hello – thank you for thinking of me! ;-))

And now I have some questions...: I thought (is that what I learned at school?) that the objects in still lifes have to be organic. Apples, pine branches, bouquets of flowers – in combination with an object such as a jug, table or candle. Is that too narrow a view? And – the primer you describe: is it suitable for every painting technique (oil, acrylic, chalk...)? I thought it would be a different base in each case. At least for a watercolour, I thought I was sure.

Hello friend, you're most welcome, the primer would work for all you mentioned but watercolour, watercolour needs a surface that can absorb water comfortably. Yes, a fruit can serve as a still life object likewise a mug and a knife.

Upvoted! Thank you for supporting witness @jswit.

Yes, I love still life ❤️ I was preparing a new post for random still life . I’m excited to see your final painting 😍 did you know that the still life you chose is very difficult 🫢 i know you can do it 💪🏼 I wish you the best my friend ❤️

Thank you very much, it can be very technical I know but I'll give it my best shot!

You are so welcome, i trust on you can do it

This contest is going to be great. I'll try to contribute my two cents. I have several ideas in mind, based on what I read in the contest. I'm going to place several objects I have at home in an interesting position, then take a photo and try to draw it. This is my idea, based on what I understood. What do you think, friend @tezzmax ? It'll be a good idea.

Yes, it's a fantastic ideal, you do not need to take a picture, draw or paint it by looking at those things you arranged, it's called drawing from life.

Thanks, I'll get to work on it.
