Chester Bennington, lead singer of the band Linkin Park, was found dead on Thursday at his home near Los Angeles, California, the Associated Press reported. According to a local police spokesman, the death is investigated as suicide.

TMZ claims that the singer hanged himself in his home. The body was found just before 9 am local time, according to the report. Chester was married and had six children.

He fought for years against drugs and alcohol, and said in an interview last year that he had already thought of suicide because he was abused as a child by an older man.

The musician was close to Chris Cornell, lead singer of Soundgarden and Audioslave, who died in May - also in a suicide by hanging. The singer sang the song "Hallelujah" at his friend's funeral, which would complete this 53rd anniversary.

Chester has already told in interviews that he suffered from stomach upsets. During concerts and events broadcasting the album "Meteora", suffered from abdominal pain and underwent surgery to cure a hiatal hernia. In interviews, he said that, because of illness, he even felt like throwing up when he sang.

Success in the years 2000

Linkin Park peaked in the early 2000s, with albums "Hybrid Theory" and "Meteora". At the time, the group embarked on their alternative rock, influenced by rap and metal, in hits charts, with songs like "Faint", "In the end", "Crawling" and "Numb".

The band won two Grammy Awards for the performance of "Crawling" and the single "Numb / Encore" from Collision Course, recorded in collaboration with rapper Jay-Z in 2004.

Linkin Park's latest album, "One More Light," came out in May this year and the group was touring the United States, with shows scheduled until October.

Born in Phoenix, Arizona, Chester began his career in the grunge band Gray Daze. He then joined Linkin Park - which at the time was still called Xero. He also worked on the side project Dead by Sunrise and was the lead singer of Stone Temple Pilots. And made appearances in films such as "Adrenaline" (2006) and "Deadly Games - The End" (2013).
