Artificial Intelligence, Mammograms, and Breast Cancer

A few months old but worth spreading the news:

“Regina Barzilay was 40 when she had her first mammogram; 3 years later, she found out she had breast cancer. After treatment, the MIT artificial intelligence (AI) expert and her student created an AI model called Mirai. It analyzes and compares pixels in new and old mammograms and can see things doctors cannot see with the naked eye. In doing so, Mirai can predict up to half of all breast cancers up to 5 years before they occur.”
