Facebook turns off AI for creating secret language

Yes it finally happened.

One of the big companies pushing machine learning and artificial intelligence found something a bit spooky.

Facebook AI bots created their own language that humans couldn't read but other bots could.

Everyone always says "be careful messing with AI as the machines might just learn that humans are a problem that need dealing with" but usually don't expect that any sort of Terminator-like Skynet stuff is going to happen any time soon.

It's getting harder and harder to tell whether the 'people' you're interacting with online are actual humans or just bots designed to give the impression of human communication.

We've all probably seen instances of this, even as a Steemian you'll probably notice some bot chat in people's blog post replies.

So - are we nearing the time when one of the big corporations will take the lid off the AI box in a way that they can't put it back on and set us on a path to control by robotic overlords?
