Weird Things I Like That There Aren't Enough Stories About, part 1
Everyone has weird or niche interests they wish would be more popular and this is one of mine.
The WEIRD THING: Kids' Cereal
It's fun to hear about someone's favorite childhood brand of cereal or to look at vintage cereal boxes on the Internet. Seinfeld made great strides for cereal when an episode led George to claim that Jerry only cares about "Superman and cereal"; but aside from Jimmy Dore singing the old King Vitamin song, and a book series that includes the title Champions of Breakfast, there isn't much progress being made, aside from calculated marketing on TV. I'd like to see a story in any medium which features cereal prominently. The film adaptation of Breakfast of Champions was not anywhere near this. I assume the book wasn't either.
Please note that I want to see more stories made featuring children's cereal in a prominent role or as part of an important theme. I don't want to eat more kids' cereal, as these tend to be made of too much sugar and the high iron content is counteracted by the inclusion of milk (ask a chemistry major). What I like is what C. S. Lewis might call the "cereal-ness" of cereal--the designs on the boxes, mascot personalities; the nostalgia people fall into when they remember their favorite product; the search for discontinued or limited-time-offer cereals. Think of me as Will Ferrell's character in The Lego Movie, but with cereal instead of Legos.
An example to prove it can be done:
