Archcathedral of St. John the Baptist in Wroclaw
Archcathedral of St. John the Baptist in Wroclaw is the oldest gothic temple in Poland. Its oldest part is a presbytery, the building was completed in the fifteenth century, together with chapels and one tower. In the 16th century, after a great fire, another tower and renaissance helmets crowning both towers of the church were added.
There were also several additional chapels, for example the Baroque chapel of St. Elżbieta from the end of the 17th century, who is today regarded as the most magnificent in Poland.
In 1945, during World War II, 70% of Wrocław's cathedral was destroyed. It took a long time to rebuild it, but today it looks great and, despite everything, remains an extremely valuable souvenir of our state, history and art.
