Art Attack #215: Piggy dreams of Ads? 🐷
Hey Steemit!
We're back again with another Art Attack! If you're new to the series, this is where I share my drawings and the process behind them. A behind-the-scenes look at my artwork, if you will. This is not to say that I'm very good at art, or that I'm a professional in any way. In fact this is the opposite, and serves as a reminder to how I first started, and lets me track my progress too!
We're currently on the series of commissions I did for one of my streamer friends who goes by Phangtasy on Twitch! I haven't done an actual commission in a long long time, but it is available upon request if any of my viewers or streamer friends would like me to do some art for them. Since Phangtasy does contribute quite a bit to our community so I was more than happy to help out!
I'd previously done some emotes for him which I'm glad he really liked, and his avatar is a pig which is quite easy to draw. Here's one of the older emotes I did for him (link to the post here):
Anyway, he ordered 5 emotes and thankfully had some ideas for them. I shared three so far, and for the fourth one he wanted something special for an "ads" emote. So basically his viewers can let him know if there's an ad playing on the stream which will effectively cut out all the audio for a set duration.
Something like this:
Other streamers also like to include their characters of course, and it looks quite cute like this:
This was the initial sketch I came up with:
Phang wanted to include a crescent moon in his emotes as a tribute to his partner at the time who goes by Moon. I wasn't really sure how to include the moon in this one, but another idea I had was to put the moon in the back and have the ADS be on a cloud in front of it since the ads block the stream as well.
It looked quite messy though so Phang came up with the idea to make the crescent moon as part of the letter D, which I thought was quite clever.
It looked good and neat so I went with this one and revised the sketch:
After that I got to work on the outline.
Then I filled in the cloud and drew some stars around in the same style.
Eventually we get this, but then Phang decided against the moon as the D since there was already a moon on the forehead.
So after all that I removed the big moon and we end up with this which I think still looks good.
I tried my best to fill up all the space since the actual emote will end up looking about 25x25 pixels. But the challenge is filling the 500x500px without it looking too cluttered. I think this looks alright though, and quite creative too. Most importantly, Phang liked it and that's all that matters really.
Here's a timelapse:
We have one more left in this series so stick around!
Thanks so much for reading!
