Hamish In Memory -Part 11-When we said goodbye
It all happened so quick. In the morning we got up he walked into the kitchen and I was hopeful when he ate some food, but it was only a mouth full.
My daughter came with me, and we sat as the vet examined him and gave us his blood results.
My daughter understood some of it but it when over my head. A few things weren't right including his liver enzymes. Way too high.
The vet told us she expected a tumor on his liver or cushings disease. She didnt say it as blunt as that she was very tactful. WE decided to have all his examinations done, xrays abdominal scan etc to be sure. I'm the forever optomist. I had hope.
When we got there though we did notice he had lost half a kilo overnight.
We left him there and went home. Me, my son, daughter and even my mum sat waiting my the phone, updating my hubby whist he was at work.
When the call in it was the lovely vet who saw him a few months back when he broke his tooth so that was good as he had a very good way with words.
He told us that it was a tumor on his liver, he really wasn't well boy and it would be a matter of time. He asked if we wanted to take him home with us or if we wanted to let him go.
I hung up and spoke to the family and we all agreed to let him go. We took our cat home 8 years ago and watched him deteriorate over night and that wasn't fair.
My son stayed with my mum as he couldn't face it, but me and my daughter went and by the time we got there he had already lost his balance...it was already time to go.
We hugged him tight and said our goodbyes.
If anyone says get over it it's just a dog.
Then I feel sorry for them because they haven't the ability to love.
Thank you for your post.
How tragic! Thank you for sharing something so painful.
More hugs, hon...
