I've been to Marsa Alam a couple times but never to Dahab. Just checked online and see that there are few hotels and mostly apartments. Got any advice on places to stay over there?

I like to stay in Dahab in the Lighthouse area, so that you can get to the sea in a couple of steps. On the way, throwing a tank on my back)
When I dived with Torch Divers, I lived in a hotel above them. Hotels there are very simple.
The hotels a little better slightly away from Lighthouse. For example Dahab-hotel.
In general, I first chose the dive center, and then the hotel)
Full-value hotels are only away from Dahab, in the Lagoon. But it's good for surfers and uncomfortable for divers.
Hmmm, will be hard to convince my girlfriend to go there then. She likes snorkling but also likes the payable 5* resorts at the red sea.
Still a nice hotels at Marsa Alam with a dive club and house reef isn't a bad compromise.

You can choose good hotel at Sharm, and then get two day to go to Dahab. Just for diving. It's about 2hour by car.
