Visiting a friend's workshop part 1

in #art7 years ago

My friend Chevy is an artist who works mostly with metal and resin. He makes sculpture, lights and occasionally does large projects like gates and balustrading. He employs a few people to help him manufacture some of his pieces, which frees him up to create new things, so the staff keep the workshop relatively clean although his workspace is an artwork in itself. I took some pictures while I was there and I will attempt to declutter the experience by posting a few at a time. Today, I will show parts of the workshop.

Firstly, the man himself, who wasn't into posing, so here he is beating something on a mandrel with a 4# hammer

A welding table. If you're wondering what the little mounds are, they are created by striking the welding rod before commencing welding. This ensures a clean weld from the start by ensuring that the flux is the correct length. Well used tables!

Tomorrow, we will delve deeper into the clutter

Very interesting! Creativity and creative expression is fascinating; both my Humans are artists/creators, so there's always something going on around here, but it's really cool to see someone else's work.

=^..^=

I think cat needs to curate some, then. It would be interesting to see

Really interesting. So this must be the guy that welded your security masterpiece on your window.

Actually, one of his employees did the welding. It was done at this workshop, though

I like work shops. Wielding fascinates me it's a real craft.
Especially those who are artistic with metal.
I have never had the chance to learn to work with metal, I have always worked with wood, carpentry.

Look forward to more of chevy's story.

I also enjoy metalwork although I don't like arc-welding much: The arc and the fumes aren't a great combination

The mounds look pretty cool. You can actually see faces on them! lol The bigger mound has an unhappy face hehehe

The middle mound looks like a one-eyed cat standing on his hind-paws
