Bridges of St. Petersburg. Bank Bridge.
We are again with you on the Griboedov channel in St. Petersburg. One of the most original and beautiful bridges over the canal is the Bank Bridge. This pedestrian bridge on the chains of the original construction is a monument of architecture of the early 19th century.
This is the next bridge after the Kazan Bridge, Kazan Cathedral is nearby. The bridge received its name due to the State bank of accounts located nearby.
The bridge project was designed by the German bridge builder Wilhelm von Tretter in February 1825. It should be noted that at the same time another Lion Bridge project was compiled, which I will discuss later. It was calculated to complete the work on the construction of the bridge until the end of 1825. But there was a delay in the manufacture of metal structures and the opening of the bridge was only in the summer of 1826.
The most attractive and famous detail in the design of the bridge was made by four angular figures of winged lions by the Russian sculptor Pavel Petrovich Sokolov.
Figures of lions were cast from cast iron, wings minted of copper and covered with gold.
The bridge was overhauled from 1949 to 1952. Bridge deck was replaced, fences and lanterns were restored over the sculptures.
The width of the bridge is 1.85 meters, the length of the bridge is 20.1 meters.
Today the sculptures decorating the bridge are on restoration. These graceful Lions are planned to be returned to the place in the summer of this year 2018.
Thank you for your time and attention to my stories. I'm waiting for you on excursions around St. Petersburg again.
This post made me realize I need to work a little more on my own posts. Good Job!
I wish you success. And thank you for such a flattering assessment of my work.
OMG! That place really looks beautiful. I love the colors of the building. The golden color of the lions is great too. Great post though! Thanks for sharing :)
It's really a very beautiful bridge. Many tourists hurry to walk along it in the city of St. Petersburg.
Wow! That's so cool. I would hurry to walk along it too.
A city full of history and so artistic
