Motorcycle Diary: #004 - The Agong House of the Land of Peace
Land of Peace is in Mindanao. Yes that’s right. Despite the negative news that Mindanao is a war zone, It can’t be argued that Mindanao is safe and surely a Land of Peace. Having my motorcycle for more than a year now, I am lucky to visit and explore different beautiful places including the place of the renowned Mindanaoan artist “Kublai Millan” in Kapatagan, Davao Del Sur where the Agong House was built alongside his other artworks installation.

Last June 20, my motorcycle buddies planned to take a ride to Dhen Yo’s Place, an inland resort in the hinterlands of Kapatagan. At June 26, 0900 we were already driving through the Pan-Philippine Highway bound to Digos City. We reached Digos around 0940 and took our breakfast at one of the eatery on the entry road to Kapatagan. After our breakfast and a few minutes of rest, we traversed the winding but swift and sweet road. The view while on our way was mesmerizing and breathtaking.
We arrived at Dhen Yo’s after a winding 30 minutes ride from the entry point. At first, I thought it was just a typical inland resort just like others, but when we got up, we were surprised by what we saw. The Famous Mindanaoan Artist’s place is just at the side of the resort.
So we were not just enjoying the inland pool, we are also blessed and lucky to see up close the masterpiece of the renowned Mindanaoan artist “Kublai Millan”. And among the artworks installed, the most astonishing one among them all was the Agung House. His home that was shaped like an actual Agung. The house was functional, it has bedrooms, living room and it is where he sleeps whenever he is in the place. You can climb to the rooftop and enjoy the majestic view of Mount Apo. You can also clearly see the bold words “LAND OF PEACE” that makes a popular backdrop together with Mount Apo for a picture perfect selfie.
Visiting the entire land of Kublai Millan give you the feel of what Mindanao is and what it offers. His works that is scattered all around the place creates a good vibes and something you will be proud to be a Mindanaoan. His artworks is the evidence of his passion and love for Mindanao and a manifestation that Mindanao is not a nest of the notorious criminals, not a war torn island, not a place you will be afraid of, but a home of the different tribes, a home of a peace loving people. That Mindanao is where diversity means unity. Indeed, Mindanao is a Land of Peace.
After our tour at Kublai Millan’s place, we enjoyed the rest of our time at Dhen Yo’s cold spring pool. The trip, whom I thought first was just plain ordinary turned out to be an extraordinary one. We just hit two birds with one stone. At the end of the day, we got home bringing with us a happy memories and a reflection that we are lucky we are from Mindanao where Peace, Resilience and unity in diversity exists.
