The Story that is Art
Art has always been a central aspect in my life, only being second to learning as that is one of the sources of inspiration to the art I create. Apart from it being second to learning, art is the way I can share my soul with the world, the means to leaving something timeless, I mean it is through art that we still speak of Picasso, Michaelangelo and the like. Because once art goes silent, the world is quickly reduced to the themes of post-apocalyptic feature films, it dries up and turns in to a barren wasteland. It is no doubt that before we became fluent in language as a species, art was the dominating form of communication and even though we have evolved so much in terms of language, art still remains a viable mode of communication as it is unambiguous even with its 1000 words. A thousand word visually told, words that transcend time and space and echoes throughout the ages, this is why we still admire and wonder at the Mona Lisa.
I too as an artist have a story to tell, a story I've carried since inception, driven at the very core to spread this message, with everyday a learning process to improve the quality of my story. Art as a story that is never short of an audience, a central aspect of any culture, an aspect we cannot evolve past, we grow and move with it, locked deeply in our genes by Natural Selection.
This piece is a manifestation of the story that embody, the aim was to write a story that resonates deeply with the times and the environment that South Africa now finds itself in, drawn the previous year to reflect the cause of the social unrest and political distrust that we see today. An atmosphere of enough has emerged, fed up my people are because frankly things have been like this for far too long. As millenials, we are now the drivers of this economy, our sweat and bloodshed keeps it afloat only to have the privileged looting the very pockets they were put in place to serve.
With the dawn of the new year, things have taken a different turn, a turn we hope to be the best, at least better than what we had, a stance to dismantle the world of nobles and peasants that some had abused their power to create.
This is the message, that we are the millennials and we are here to take over and it is about time that we did.
