Read About It: The story behind the cover
Since joining Steemit I have essentially forgotten about other social media apps I use. Today, while waiting in line to get a sandwich(which ended up being the most monstrous sandwich I have ever seen), I went on Instagram, and was reminded of something brought to my attention a few weeks ago that I feel like is a somewhat common and very important issue.
Awhile back, sitting on my couch, watching Re-Animator, I got a notification from a friend(well, really, at this point we have become just social media acquaintances) regarding a young artist from his hometown. It was a screenshot of a tweet from the artist of his original artwork alongside an album cover.

Now, I knew nothing of the musical artist behind the album, Famous Dex. I went to his Instagram page to see that he has over 2.5 million followers, and I thought that it was pretty petty for someone with that size following to allow it to happen. (Since, he has deleted the picture of the artwork for "Read About It" on his IG page. However, it still appears to be the artwork for the album)
The real issue seems to be the "artist" behind the cover, @ezragfx . This guy has actively hidden, buried, deleted, whatever; every comment or attempt to expose the "art theft", for lack of a better term. He blocked me on several pages and deleted all of my comments when I told him he should at least give credit to the original artist.
The original work, posted in the Twitter pic, was posted on the young man's page on August 7th. Famous Dex's artist released the artwork for the album sometime around late November/early December. From online interactions Jer, the original artist, believes he is too young and powerless to do anything about it, and has given up hope.
This seems to happen much more often than it should these days. There are tons of "graphic designers" and "artists" out there that steal lesser-known artists material and use it to generate large profits for themselves, without credit. Jer had not asked for them to remove the artwork but to simply give credit where it was due.
As I said above, I don't know who Famous Dex is, and I'm certainly not willing to give him a shot after this whole debacle. But, he seems to be pretty popular, so I am sharing this post as to say DO NOT BUY THIS ALBUM. If you enjoy his music, whatever, that's fine; I don't really believe he has anything to do with this. @ezragfx does, however, and he will make money from the purchase of this tape.
Share so that people will know to steer clear of this one. Thanks :)
