Art Through The Eyes of a Young Girl.
Let me introduce myself. My name is Haley, I'm a 17 year old girl with a passion for Art, Music, and Fashion. While I love a wide variety, the type of art that I am most interested in is steam punk or something dark. (Think Tim Burton.)
I've been drawing since the age of 7, however when I turned 12, I sorta stopped because I had ran out of pages in my sketchbook. It never occurred to me to ask for another book or anything. I actually don't have a clue why I didn't. In Christmas of 2016, my mother purchased me a sketchbook, with the rings at the top (I am left handed so it's hard to write or draw when the rings cover your dominate edge), and a sketch set from Michael's. I had just turned 16 when I picked up the pencil again, and now I'll never put it down. Now that we have an introduction out of the way here are a few pieces of my artwork. They are mediocre at best, but I still like them.
1.) The Lady With Sparkly Lips
I gained inspiration for 'The Lady With Sparkly Lips' from an old Marilyn Monroe poster hanging in my bedroom. I had always loved Marilyn Monroe since I was a child, because there was something about her style that just caught my eye. I tried taking the face, and makeup, from Marilyn's look and adding a bit of a modern twist. For instance, instead of the highly saught after blonde hair of the time era, I changed it to a more up to date darker black color. I also added some eyeliner, and in style brown eye shadow to give it a chic look. To create this piece I used Royal Sketch pencils, and Loft 120 set colored pencils. It was one of my first professional pieces, so it wasn't that great. I believe it was made in January of 2017.
2.) Colorful Hair
I followed a YouTube tutorial in order to draw this picture, and I must say, it allowed me to gain experience in learning how to color and sketch more realistically. I believe it's because I gained in sight on certain shapes that this opened the door to creating picture like pieces. To make this, I used Primsa Color Colored Pencils 36 set, and Royal Sketch Pencils. This was created around February of 2017.
3.) Mike Lost His Eye
As a child, Monster's Inc. was my favorite movie. So when I saw a similar picture like this, I just had to draw one on my own. Of course I used the other drawing for reference, but I think this helped me discover my art style. Also I didn't know about blending pencils then, but it's still pretty amazing. I used the same materials I mentioned above to make this picture. I made this in summer of 2017.
4.) Acid Rain
Basically I jumped on the band wagon with this one, but it's still pretty cool. I created this with acrylic paint, a spray bottle filled with water, cardboard, and a piece of paper.
5.) Those Poor Unfortunate Souls
I got inspiration for this image from the movie The Little Mermaid. The scene where she gets her voice removed by the evil seas witch just doesn't really seem realistic to me, so I created a more life like version. Hence the blood and the stitches. Finally I discovered pencil blending. I created this using the same materials in the Mike Lost His Eye piece.
6.) Speak No Evil
I gained this inspiration from the quote speak no evil. I felt that by creating art I could also make a statement in the process. The statement I was trying to achieve in this particular drawing was that, people will always use harmful words towards others, and the only way to change that is to literally close their mouths. Honestly, this drawing has become one of my favorites. I used Royal Sketch pencils, Prisma Color 36 set, and Prisma Color Skin tone 24 set to create this.
Hope you enjoyed:)
