Sadly, Bloom's criticism of Poe was harsher--though he gave Poe great credit for achieving the consciousness of the American nightmare. Poe was a great imagination that was never tempered with education. He's what Emily Dickinson would have been if she wasn't so patient in achieving lyric--without sacrificing the American character.
