Today in this new entrance I bring you a bit of the great contribution of Greek culture to sculpture. Surely we have seen countless times statues in squares, parks or gardens of some houses. That's why I stop and ask the question. Do we really value the tradition and history of sculpture? Greek culture not only contributed to art, but much of the model inherited by the Romans also came from the Greek political organization, which is why we have so many vestiges in our daily lives of this invaluable culture that with their ingenuity and cunning managed to lay the foundations of world culture.

Beginnings:

The sculpture of Ancient Greece reached the ideal of artistic beauty to where human ingenuity alone could reach. Although Greece flourished in all Fine Arts, none distinguishes it as much as sculpture.

In all of ancient Greece, the art of sculpture was cultivated with marble and bronze being the materials most used to make works of art. His main purpose with this technique was to sculpt his mythological philosophy and warriors, this is a characteristic feature of most cultures.

The division:

But the Greeks did not sculpt from one day to the next, the process of finishing great works was not but the product of centuries through which they went through different stages, for me the most attractive is the Hellenistic period, but before we know how is the division itself.

The geometric period:

It takes its name from the decorative style of ceramics, among which the bottomless vases used in funerary rituals predominate. The themes related to death are also common.

Archaic Greek Sculpture:

The archaic Greek sculpture represents the first stages of formation of one of the most important sculptural traditions of Western art. Although its period is not well defined - there is great controversy among researchers - it is generally considered to begin between 700 and 650 B.C. and end between 500 and 480 B.C.; however, some date its beginning to 776 B.C., This was the date of the first Olympic Games.1 It was at this stage that the foundations were laid for the emergence of large-scale sculpture and monumental sculpture for the decoration of buildings,2 evolving from the Asian and Egyptian influences to a unique and peculiar style.

Classical period:

The third period marks the apogee of sculpture, with Phidias taking it to its splendor in the middle of the 5th century BC. But before that, the sculptors Cálamis and Mirón form a kind of transition, overcoming the rigidity of the previous period by giving the figures delicacy and grace the first and expression of movement the second. Fidias, Mirón's classmate in the school of Agéladas (of Argos), is celebrated as a sculptor of the gods because nobody like him in the ancient world knew how to give his artistic creations a noble and serene attitude and a seal of the divine without the need for symbolism. Hellenistic period:

The fourth period which is the diffusion period is also called Alexandrian and Hellenistic because it corresponds to the time of Hellenism opened by Alexander the Great.

According to historians, this period is also known as the decline of the sculptural period of the Greeks, the Romans tried to change the dynamics of art in Greece.

With Alexander, the Great in power came a period of romanization and the decline of the arts, in general, was made to wait. This also gave way in time for new sculptors to be influenced by their techniques, a remarkable fact is that the Romans managed to perfect this technique, even going so far as to make replicas of Greek sculptures.
