RE: Digital Art, MS PAINT, Steemit.com and Ascribe.io

in #art8 years ago

I'm really enjoying your art so far! Going to look at more today on my break. I've recently heard about musicians release music through blockchain technology. I'm still new to all this so still finding it hard to wrap my head around it, but how do you believe it could help visual artist?

Thanks. I'm glad you like it. I have to say so myself, your stuff is pretty cool too man. I just started following ya. With regards to blockchain and the arts. I am exploring that too. For music there's https://ujomusic.com/ which looks like an interesting idea. For film rights management there's singulardtv.com. And then there's this ( https://campaign.braidthemovie.com/ ) movie that's trying to raise financing via a token sale. This are tools that help creators finance their projects and also give back to the community that help support their projects. Steemit seems to do something similiar for bloggers and social media users. Now as far as visual artists go, I'm exploring it as I go. I haven't found any SM specifically for artists built on top of a blockchain. Steemit is the closest thing to it.

From what I gather, one of the biggest challenges surrounding digital publishing for any kind of content is the ease with which the content can be replicated and shared indefinitely. It's just very easy to copy and paste content. I don't necessarily have a problem with that. That's just the way things are in the digital world. But the beauty of the blockchain is that it opens up the possibility of ascribing your content to an immutable ledger that can always be referenced for future attribution. Now the content is still digital and can still be copied and shared without your consent, but by ascribing it to the blockchain and generating a certificate of authenticity that references your work, you have established provenance for your work, and I think there is value in that. Then maybe there could be a market for collecting digital art where artists and collectors alike can easily track ownership of their art, allowing them to have a record of its journey, which I believe, in and of itself, carries value. This should open up the possibilities for people way smarter than me to come up with platforms where artist can showcase and track millions of copies of their digital work, that could then send micro payments to the original artist depending on how the art was used or consumed. All done automatically. Anyway, I don't want to bore you. This topic could be an interesting blog post, I have to think about it a little more. Cheers dude, and thanks for commenting.
